Here is a list of movies which were based on video games, granted some were good and some bad but still they are out there either way. We also have some movie adaptions based on games in the works too. So let’s not waste anymore time and just jump right in there.
Super Mario Bros:
If you don’t know who Mario is then lets face it you haven’t lived lol. Super Mario Bros is an awesome and addictive platform game which was brought to us by Nintendo. If you own a Nintendo based console i.e.. Wii, Wii u, Playstation or DS then your bound to own a Mario game.
When the movie industy decided they wanted to make a Super Mario Bros movie my initial thought was – Oh dear god why?
Brooklyn plumbers Mario (Bob Hoskins) and Luigi (John Leguizamo) rescue Princess Daisy from King Koopa (Dennis Hopper) and the Goombas in a dinosaur world. This movie was seriously bad! My god leave Mario and the gang right where they are meant to be… In a video game!
Street Fighter:
These fun games were brought to us by Capcom and are still classed as awesome classic platform/ fighting games to this day. So now let’s talk about the movie in 1993 from my point of view again this movie was horrible. I know most will disagree but, hey-ho that’s the way it goes I guess.
The evil dictator of Shadaloo, captures a load of relief workers and holds them for ransom. Col. Guile (Jean-Claude Van Damme) leads a strike force to invade Shadaloo and rescue the hostages. Along the way, Guile recruits Chun-Li (Ming-Na Wen), a reporter and martial-arts expert whose father was killed by Bison years ago; two young con men (Damian Chapa, Byron Mann) and a sumo wrestler (Peter Navy Tuiasosopo).
Lara Croft Tomb Raider:
I couldn’t seem to get away with these games especially the first ones. I would sit for ages as a teen trying my hardest to get into the game but it was a no go.
This live action feature movie followed the well-known– Lara Croft. Lara (Angelina Jolie) is the heroine of Eidos Interactive’s phenomenally successful Tomb Raider game series. It is one woman’s fearless quest crisscrossing the globe, in an amazing attempt to save the world. This movie was a great adaption and although I couldn’t get into the game I though the movie was epic.
Other game to movie adaptions were.
- Double Dragon
- Mortal Kombat
- Wing Commander
- Final Fantasy
- Resident Evil
- Silent hill
- House of the Dead
- Alone in the Dark
- Doom
- Bloodrayne
- Dead or Alive
- Hitman
- Need for Speed
- The Angry Birds Movie
And many more.
Lets talk whats coming:
Resident Evil the Final Chapter: which is being released this year on december 21st.
Tomb Raider reboot: Is coming to us in 2018.
Sega’s Sonic the Hedgehog: Our blue, super speedy hedgehog is up for a movie adaption, which will be coming to our screens with super sonic speed in 2018.
Five Nights at Freddy’s: These games scare the socks off of me, so I dread to think how I will react to the movie. Again a 2018 release date.
Minecraft: Another one for 2018 which is going to have my oldest son all kinds of excited when I tell him.
