You may have seen people sharing on Facebook that there is a new He-Man and the Masters of the Universe episode coming. The latest in 30+ years they brag. That is true if you ignore the several spin-off/updates to the He-Man franchise and the reboot in the early 2000’s. Sure, this could be called the newest episode by the original animation company, now going by the name Super 7 rather than Filmation. No matter how you view this episode that is coming, it is cool to see some people do remember the fun of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. The date of the debut is interesting though.
The new episode of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe is called The Curse of the Three Terrors. The teaser trailer, below, shows off a little bit of what could be expected from this episode. Featuring Mer-Man, Beast Man and Skeletor himself- even voiced by Alan Oppenheimer who voiced him in the original series too, the teaser is short (about a minute of actual content) but interesting. As with most good teasers, there is really nothing explained, just questions upon questions left unanswered.
For a true fan of the original cartoon this release of a new episode is an unexpected bit of nostalgic fun releasing later this year. The animation appears to be similar to the original style (just enough frames) and has that classic He-Man feel in transitions such as characters walking from one location to the next.
The release of this episode is scheduled for August 1st on Google Play and iTunes unless you are attending this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. While not launching AT the San Diego Comic-Con, the new He-Man and the Masters of the Universe episode will debut nearby on the first night (July 20th). At the corner of 8th Avenue and G Street, downtown San Diego, in a parking lot, fans can watch the premiere of The Curse of the Three Terrors.
