It’s almost here, people! Yep, this is a fanboy rant. I’ve been a fanboy since Milla Jovovich was first released upon the cinematic world in leather and latex in the first Resident Evil movie. Resident Evil started out as a video game in the 1990s. Compared to other movies that were based off of video games, this movie series has made more money worldwide than any other film series. The sixth and final flick slated for January 2017 is sure to please countless fans and make new converts.
To date, five live-action films have been released under the title of Resident Evil. The films don’t follow the games’ storyline but do feature some of the game’s characters. The films’ main character is Alice, created just for these films. Despite a negative reaction from critics, the live action film series has made over a billion dollars worldwide. They are the only video game adaptations to increase the amount of money made with each successive film. With each new film release Alice only grows more confident, powerful, and kick ass.
Apocalypse, released in 2004 directly proceeds the original movie. Movies released afterward also follow the same chronological order. In the original film, Alice and her team struggle to quarantine the T-Virus from escaping The Hive. In the following release, the T-Virus escapes, and in later movies, the virus eventually infects the whole world.
Beginning immediately after the events in Resident Evil Retribution, humanity is barely surviving. As the only survivor of what was meant to be humanity’s final stand against the undead hordes, Alice must return to where the nightmare began – Raccoon City. There the Umbrella Corporation is gathering its forces for a final strike against the only remaining survivors of the apocalypse. In a race against time, Alice will join forces with old friends in an action-packed battle against undead hordes.
Alice started out as a lab rat, an experiment of the Umbrella Corporation. In the first movie Alice was unsure of her new-found powers and not sure how she fit into the world. It didn’t take long for her to take on the role of survivor and protector. Though still unsure of her new role, each film finds our unlikely heroine becoming more willing and able to take on a world infested with zombies and a nemesis that seems unstoppable. This movie marks Alice’s most difficult adventure yet as she fights to save humanity from obliteration.
