Okay, if you are like me you are still not all that into the Michael Bay versions of the Transformer universe. Sorry, I am more of a cartoon fan of the franchise. While I respect the work that goes into the live action versions, I am simply not a fan of the product. That is why it is so damn interesting to note that there is a Transformers Combiner Wars cartoon in the works. Yes, a new ANIMATED Transformers show is coming and it is not “Robots in Disguise” either.
Machinima have been tapped by Hasbro to work on this new animated series launching later this year. The prelude episode will be available on June 28th, just a few days after this writing. Details were released in a co-hosted panel at Cannes Lions Festival on June 23rd. The series will debut on August 2nd on “go90”, a social entertainment platform.
“Machinima is known as a leader of the digital content space and has tremendous creative talent within their network. We are excited to partner with them to tell a new kind of Transformers story for the digital generation,” said Stephen Davis, Chief Content Officer of Hasbro. “The writers, artists and voice actors working on this series are all true fans of the franchise, and their love for these characters really shines through in COMBINER WARS.”
“Transformers is one of the most beloved franchises in the world and Machinima is thrilled to work with Hasbro to bring Transformers: Combiner Wars to today’s social video platforms,” said Chad Gutstein, CEO of Machinima. “Our audience loves these characters and COMBINER WARS has been a true ‘for the fans, by the fans’ effort. We can’t wait to give fans a preview of the series during Cannes.”
If you are not excited for a new Transformers animated series that is not “kiddie-fied” then there is something wrong. Me, I am a fan of most animation that features giant robots – from Voltron to Robotech to Transformers.
