The Dwarves are a series of books written by German writer Markus Heitz. They were published in 2003 and ran until 2012 when The Fate of the Dwarves was released as the fourth and final installment of the series. These “high fantasy” novels had their own take on the dwarven race which took some inspiration from the Tolkien variety, but were different in several aspects. Now a videogame has been released on December 1, 2016 after a very successful Kickstarter campaign.
The game is based on the very first novel of the series and follows it faithfully. Utilizing an innovative combat system and mixing RPG with strategy, The Dwarves feels like an awesome mix of gameplay and story. Tungdil is the protagonist of the game and his journey is a simple one: return some items to a old student of his adoptive father. Yet, there is no pressure to complete this task in a timely manner and Tungdil becomes involved in a plot which ultimately changes the world forever.
You’ll get to experience and use 15 different characters with a restriction to four characters at any given time; travel a world map with random encounters as you move across like a board piece; battle hordes of monsters with your party and simultaneously manage all members of your party, utilizing different strategies to succeed in combat; enjoy solid graphics with very nice facial details and a great story to compliment such great visuals.
The Dwarves also features voice acting from a cast of experienced actors, complimented by an orchestral soundtrack which sounds amazing. It’s hard to resist the appeal of such promising presentation and The Dwarves serves as a great example of what a good Kickstarter campaign should do with it’s funding.
You can purchase The Dwarves on PS4, Xbox One, and PC (including Mac and Linux) for 39.99 USD + tax.
