The Dark Eye: Skilltree Saga Reminds Gamers What Turn Based RPG’s are Like on Android

Turn based role playing games are not all that common on Android and iOS.  Sure, we get them from time to time but they are usually mixed with some kind of weird collectible card game mechanic.  Personally, I prefer straight turn based role playing games that are similar to what we saw back in the early 90’s.  Skilltree Saga is similar to those classics I remember, but there is plenty of new stuff to keep fans interested.  Headup Games have added in a bit of “rogue-like” mechanics to the Skilltree Saga proceedings- a welcome addition if you ask me.  Your mileage may vary though.

I am being lazy and copying the story from the press release here, “A sinister spawn of orks and goblins led by the Dark Ruler Sargul are besieging the city of Griffonford. To make matters worse, your beloved, the daughter of Baron Griffontrue, was abducted and you desperately try to take up pursuit. After being rescued from an ambush of a group of goblins by a master of the mysterious Elemental Knight you have the marvellous opportunity to become part of this alliance society. Following the intensive training it is up to you to defeat the sinister spawn that is about to mercilessly enlarge their numbers to occupy Aventuria. “

The point is, you get to take turns thrashing enemies in a 3D side view battle sequence.  The game world is randomly generated, the enemies are random and well, a lot of stuff is random in Skilltree Saga.  For those of us that remember “rogue-like” games such as the original Rogue and newer incarnations such as the Diablo series, this is a welcome addition.

Thankfully, Headup Games have not included any In App Purchases- at least that is how Skilltree Saga is listed on Google Play.  Thank you.
