Power Rangers Star Having Second Thoughts Concerning Reboot?

It is quite clear from the preview images that we have seen so far that the reboot of Power Rangers, due next year, is NOT the Power rangers of our youth.  No, this is going to be a darker movie that is probably going to deal with storylines that the original television show could only dream, in nightmares, of featuring.  The differences here only begin with the new suits (they change those every new team anyhow) and the redesign of Rita Repulsa.  Apparently things are different from expected for one star of the reboot though.

Quote pulled from a Huffington Post interview with Bryan Cranston– cast to play Zordon (bold sentences my accent): “At first I was, to be honest with you, I was reticent to looking at the role because I remember the television series was kind of farcical and silly and ‘pow’ and ‘zow’ — weird movements and things like that. I was like, ‘Oh, OK,’” said Cranston. “I wasn’t really high on it until I talked to the producer and read the script and talked to the director. After that I went, ‘This is different.’ This is as different a reimagining as the Batman television series as it became the Batman movie series. You can’t compare those two, and nor can you compare this movie version of the Power Rangers to that television series. It’s unrecognizable for the most part. There are tenets of the folklore that you hold onto for sure, but the inspiration is different, and the sensibility of it, and the approach to the film making is completely different.”

It sounds like Cranston was having concerns early on, prior to seeing the script and promotional material that has not been released to the public.  Is this good news though, that Cranston had his mind changed so easily about the reboot?  I think we are in for a treat with this one as there is more room to play with the material than there is in stuff like Jumanji and Ghostbusters.
