Best Horror Movies of 2016 So Far

2015 wasn’t a very good year for horror movies, but it seems this year the movie industry has come back fighting on the horror front. It’s only the beginning of October and so far we have had some pretty good horror movies already. If you haven’t had a chance to watch these movies yet then I highly recommend you do.

The Boy:

I’ve said it a million times over… To make a truly creepy horror movie, add creepy children or creepy dolls. This movie from February 2016 went for both of these scary factors in the movie The Boy. A young American woman named Greta takes a job as a nanny for an 8-year-old boy in an English village. Greta is shocked to learn that the child of her new employers is a life-size doll. They care for the doll as if it were a human child, which helps the couple cope with the death of their own son 20 years earlier. When Greta violates a list of strict rules, a series of disturbing events bring her worst fears to life, leading her to believe that the doll is in fact alive.

The Other Side of the Door:

This creepy movie is a must watch if you haven’t seen it yet. It hit the Cinemas in February 2016. The movie was based on Maria, a woman who becomes consumed with guilt after losing her son Oliver in a tragic accident. She learns about a remote temple where visitors can speak with the dead and say goodbye for the last time. The grieving mother does not follow a dire warning to never open the door that serves as a mysterious portal. Her failure to follow the rules causes Oliver’s spirit to return home and haunt the rest of his family.

The Conjouring 2:

A movie which will scare your socks off was The Conjouring sequel which hit the screen June 2016. Based in 1977, paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren come out of a sabbatical to travel to Enfield. There, they meet Peggy Hodgson, a single mother of four who tells the couple that something evil is in her home. Ed and Lorraine believe her story when the youngest daughter shows signs of possession. As they try to help the girl, they become the evil spirit’s next targets.

The Purge Election Year:

This movie was the 3rd installment to The Purge franchise, and although, it wasn’t as good as the previous two, it still rocked. It has also recently been reported that there is to be a Purge TV series, so we have that to look forward to also. Charlie Roan survived the annual night known as “The Purge” that took the lives of her family members. Now as a candidate for president, she is determined to end the yearly tradition once and for all. When her opponents come up with a deadly plan, the senator finds herself trapped on the streets of Washington, D.C., while the latest Purge begins. It’s up to Leo Barnes, her head of security, to keep her alive during the next 12 hours of the deadly Purge night.

Lights Out:

Enough, to make anyone terrified of the dark, this movie is a must watch if you’re a horror fan. It hit the big screens August 2016. When Rebecca left home, she thought that her childhood fears were behind her. As a young girl growing up, she was never sure of what was real when the lights went out at night. Now her little brother is facing the same terrifying events that jeopardized her safety and sanity.

Don’t Beathe:

This horror movie was released August 2016 and is creepy as hell. Rocky, Alex and Money are three Detroit thieves who get their kicks by breaking into the houses of wealthy people. Money gets word about a blind veteran who got a huge cash settlement following the death of his only child. Thinking the man is an easy target, the trio invade the man’s home in an abandoned neighborhood. Finding themselves trapped inside, the young intruders must fight for their lives after making a shocking discovery about the apparent helpless victim.

Blair Witch:

Released in September, Blair Witch hit the big screen as a sequel to The Blair Witch Project. This movie is about a young man and his friends who go into the Black Hills Forest in Maryland to uncover the mystery of his missing sister. Many believe her disappearance 17 years earlier is connected to the legend of the Blair Witch. At first the group are hopeful, especially when two locals act as guides through the dark and winding woods. But as the night wears on, a visit from a menacing presence soon makes them realize that the legend is real.
