People are going nuts for news on this movie lately. We have already heard that Julie Andrews has approved of the new Mary Poppins (Emily Blunt) for the movie Mary Poppins Returns. Everyone’s favourite nanny is back with a sequel. 1964 was the first time Mary Poppins came to the big screen, and since then it has captured the hearts of many children. With so many movies up for remakes and sequels, it’s no surprise that this classic Disney movie was going to be in the works for a sequel.
In the original, Jane (Karen Dotrice) and Michael (Matthew Garber), the children of the wealthy Banks family, are faced with the prospect of a new nanny. They are soon surprised by the arrival of the magical Mary Poppins (Julie Andrews). Mary takes them on a series of adventures with her Cockney friend, Bert (Dick Van Dyke).
The original Mary Poppins and Bert (Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke) are being lined up to join the cast of Mary Poppins Returns. Neither have yet signed anything as of yet, but E! Online reports that there are now plans to get both involved in the movie.
The new movie is getting ready to start filming, and there are a lot of fans out there who are excited for this follow on to the original. Already in place is Emily Blunt, who will be stepping into the role of Mary Poppins. Lin Manuel-Miranda has also already been cast. Meryl Streep is said to be in talks to take on the role of Mary Poppins’ cousin, Topsy. She’s not signed anything just yet, but we’d imagine in this case it’s just a matter of time.
Mary Poppins Returns arrives in cinemas on December 25th 2018 in the US.
