Gilmore Girls, the show that a lot of people were upset ended and was not renewed. This is a television show that has been rumored to be returning for nearly a decade now. Some of the stars stated hints in interviews with the media that the story could continue in a movie, or a relaunch of the show on new networks. Those rumors were finally put to rest when Netflix stepped in and announced they had picked up Gilmore Girls and will releasing it themselves. Now, we have a release date.
The story of Gilmore Girls follows a single mother and her daughter who live in the fictional city of Stars Hollow, Connecticut (according to show lore it is located just 30 minutes from Hartford, Connecticut). Storylines explored in the show include love for both mother and daughter, ambitions in life and the failures that result most of the time and even just getting out of bed to start the day and everything in between.
The method in which Netflix is planning on releasing Gilmore Girls on November 25th is four 90 minute episodes. Each episode is expected to cover a “season” of the show. This is a different take on the show than what fans may be used to as this was an hour long show while airing on television. It remains to be seen if fans will accept this new styling for the show, how stories will be run and just how returning stars are received by those fans.
It is obvious that Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel are returning, they are featured in the preview trailer that Netflix has released (above). Many other stars will be returning to reprise their roles in Stars Hollow’s world. Interestingly Melissa McCarthy (Snookie) will be returning to the show. McCarthy has been quite busy since Gilmore Girls ended, she starred in Mike & Molly and a string of movie roles, most the recently Ghostbusters reboot.
