If you are running an Android device with Android 4.4 or higher and are interested in Playstation Vue then you are in luck. For those that do not know what this service is, or why you should care, it is Sony’s answer to the cable cord cutter. There are a wide variety of packages available along with single channel offerings. The question is, should you care?
Previously you had to have a Sony Playstation 3 or 4 console to enjoy the service. You could also use the service on Amazon’s Fire TV and iPhone/iPad. Soon Android will join the family. Same for Roku.
Plans range from $29.99 to $44.99 per month. The $29.99 plan gets you 55+ channels, live television, movies and sports channels. The highest monthly plan gets you over 100 channels featuring national and regional sports channels and exclusive, plan wise, entertainment channels.
There are also standalone options available but the selection is VERY sparse in this area. You can get Fox Soccer Plus for $14.99 per month, Machinima for $3.99 per month and Epix/Showtime for $13.99 per month. That is it for standalone options. Like I said, VERY sparse.
Some of the channels that you can expect in various packages include Cartoon Network, CNN, Do it Yourself Network, MTV, HGTV, Food Network, Life Time, CMT, Comedy Central, AMC and many more. Not a lot of stuff related to gaming. AMC is on there so you can watch The Walking Dead as it airs with the other fans – no longer having to avoid social media till you have time to watch it later.
Playstation Vue is an interesting service as it is not just offering access to certain shows on certain networks like Hulu does. Also, unlike Netflix, you are able to enjoy current seasons as they air rather than waiting up to a year, or more, to watch seasons.
